MCB Welcomes Dutch Government’s Resignation – Calls on Britain To Take Action Against Israel

17th April 2002
The Muslim Council of Britain welcomes yesterday’s principled resignation of the Dutch government following the publication last week of a report which held the government of Holland together with its army and the UN as being responsible the 1995 massacre of Bosnian Muslims in Srebrenica. This was the biggest act of genocide since the Second World War.

“In the light of this action we call upon our own government to not turn its eyes away from the ongoing massacre and gross abuse of human rights which is occurring in occupied Palestine every day. We want to see concrete actions taken by our government to punish Israel for its disregard for UN resolutions and ignoring world opinion. We welcome the statements made by Ann Clwyd MP, Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Human Rights calling for Israel to be punished and that no political or security objective can justify targeting and punishing civilians in this way and that of Gerald Kaufman MP calling for Ariel Sharon to be considered a War Criminal,” said Mr Yousuf Bhailok, Secretary General of the MCB.

The Muslim Council of Britain added that they were closely following the results of an investigation by a British team of researchers led by Professor Derrick Pounder as to whether war crimes had been committed by the Israeli PM Ariel Sharon during the murderous Israeli assault on Jenin.
