The Muslim Council of Britain (MCB) will be signing a Protocol of Understanding with the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural organisation (ISESCO) on Thursday June 20th, 2002. ISESCO is the counterpart of UNESCO in the 57-nation Organisation of the Islamic Conference (OIC), which has its headquarters in Rabat.
The signing of the protocol coincides with the opening of a two-day International Symposium (June 20-21st) at the Islamic Cultural Centre in London on Thursday morning at 10am.
The symposium is entitled ‘The West and Islam in the Media’ and taking part in the inaugural ceremony will be Rt. Hon. Mike O’Brien MP, Minister of State, Foreign and Commonwealth Office, HE Dr Abdulaziz Othman Altwaijri, Director General of ISESCO, HE Dr Khalid al-Ankary, Minister of Higher Education, Saudi Arabia and Dr Ahmed al-Dubayan, Director General of the Islamic Cultural Centre.
ISESCO Director General Dr Altwaijri said, “We hope to open a fresh new chapter in our relationship with the West, Britain in particular”. The MCB Secretary General Iqbal Sacranie commented that “the Protocol extends the opportunity of furthering greater understanding and deepening cultural co-operation between Britain and the Islamic World”.
The symposium will hear from eminent Western and Islamic scholars from the Muslim countries, Britain and the USA and is open to all interested academics and media people. The symposium begins on Thursday June 20th at 10am at the Islamic Cultural Centre, 146 Park Road, London NW2.
